working on the Final Case Study assignment, I learned a lot about New
York in the 1980s, wrought with economical problems and tension and met
Standard 4, identifying bias and prejudice in historical represntations.
During this time of tension, a case that stood out to me was People v.
Goetz because it was a fine example of biased representation. This definitely
relates to current events, because in writing this I realized how these
racial prejudices still exist today. In evaluation both sides of the case,
I realize that Goetz is clearly guilty because of outright illegal gun
possession and manslaughter. fffffThe objective of this assignment was to brief a case looking for whose rights were violated, which law was broken, and were his actions in self defense. This assignment shows my personal views on this topic, which are that the ruling should have been against him. Constitutionally, Goetz was absolutely guilty of several crimes. To me, it’s also clear that he was guilty, because he wasn’t legally in possession of a gun in the first place. It expresses my feelings on gun control and racially related crimes, which are that they should be treated without bias and a blind eye towards race and status. I believe he should have been charged of illegal possession of a gun and wounding several young men, and he was highly under-punished for his crimes. |

writing my Legal Eagle Project Essay, I met standard 3relating current
events to past events from around the world. It relates to current day
topics because there are still many school shootings and gang violence
in the world today. The essay prompt was to do a complete a research
paper on the multiple sides of a topic in the law. The project had us
choose a controversial topic in the law today and evaluate both sides
of the argument. By doing unbiased research on the topic of gun control
I found that both sides put up equally powerful arguments such as arguments
regarding right to bear arms versus gun violence spiraling out of control.
In order to complete my research paper I had to first fffffI chose this essay because it shows my views on a controversy as well as professional views from both sides. Being that gun control is important today because; choosing which topic to write about rather easy because I see it in the news everyday, and I see it happen in the city as well. Most importantly, working on this project exposed me to views I haven’t seen before to in the topic of gun control. It puts on display my strong views about more gun control laws concerning the easy access of obtaining a gun and restricting possession of guns in certain areas. |
