In this assignment, I did a class presentation on the Victorian Era, with particular attention to the history of the period. I talked in detail about the early, mid and late Victorian periods.
The standards I met with this assignment were those of delivering oral responses to a historical investigation. Furthermore, I related the historical investigation to the literary philosophy of the time, including some of the themes used in the Victorian period.
I met these standards by giving an oral presentation in class about the Victorian period prior to our study of "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. I talked about writers' views on past literature, and about what they generally perceived to be good literature.
I think that this assignment shows my growth since I was able to effectively give a presentation about historical facts. I was able to relate these facts to the literature of the period. In this way, I helped the class understand the themes of "Dorian" to a larger extent.
I was glad to have done this assignment since I have a deep love for world history. It was interesting to research myself the effect of society on literature and art.
