In
this assignment, I was supposed to write a pastiche
of the C.S. Lewis text "The Screwtape Letters." I was to concentrate
on specific techniques such as capitalization, point of view, and the
letter format found in the novel. However, I was limited to 1500 words,
including a separate statement of intent.
By doing this assignment, I used point of view, style, and related elements
for aesthetic purposes. Furthermore, I used text to show the demon's individual
voice and enhance the meaning and tone in a way that is consistent with
the purpose, audience, and genre of the original text and my own.
The standards were met by this assignment since I used the "head"
demon's point of view to write the letter to his subordinate in the style
used in the original by C.S. Lewis. This style included capitalization,
religious allusions, and a bit of satire. As the pastiche is a letter
to a subordinate demon, it is immediately the same genre as "The
Screwtape Letters."
It was quite interesting to write from the point of view of a demon. I
praticularly enjoyed looking down on humans and God, or as I wrote: "The
Man Himself." The meaning of the piece may be a bit unclear without
the statement of intent, but I'm sure one can decipher the general idea
of it.
