My personal essay, for my 11th grade American Literature course, meets the writing standard 2.1 Write ficional or (auto)biographical narratives because it was about me which meets the autobiography standard. I wrote about a personal experience, therefore it shows I wrote an essay that meets the w2.1 standard. The piece shows what I've been through during a certain point in my life that I struggled to get through. There were a few obstacles but I was able to get through them during a short amount of time.

I chose this piece because it is a sensitive subject about my life. It was more than an assignment to me. It displays my struggle which was a load off of my chest on a few pieces of paper. "Life is a chess game and every more counts," rapped by local San Francisco legend San Quinn, which is my title. I like it because it is extremely true. Every decision you choose is based on your life and it will make or break you. Bad decisions will hurt you and good decisions will mostly benefit you. "Now I’m looking forward to graduating next year in 2006 and moving on to college. I can hardly wait until I hear my name called on the stage and I can walk up and get my diploma," Now it's 2006 and I am a month away from graduating and I can not wait! YEE!

To improve my essay, I could have shown more examples of how my life is now and how I have adapted and interacted with the Bay Area; not only in San Francisco, but the whole Bay Area. A bit of my growth would have made the essay stronger and added a bigger idea of what my life is now like. It would have shown the past to present which is always exciting to read.
