Oral Response to Literature
Last Updated: May 30, 2006

One of the books I read during my senior year, was Hamlet, by William Shakespear. At first, this book seemed a little boring, but once I started reading it with my class, it got me hooked. I Learned a lot of history and English with this book. The words were confusing because the book was written in between of the 1600 and 1602 and the English used at that time was Elizabethan English in honor to queen Elizabeth of England.

The book, is very interesting, it is about a young man called Hamlet, who is son of king Hamlet of Denmark and queen Gertrude. The king's brother, Claudius, always wanted to be in the kings position and so he decided to kill his own brother by pouring a poison called Ebona into the king's ear. Claudius succeded the throne after king's Hamlet's death, and even married Gertrude, his brother's ex-wife. After some time, Claudius, sent Hamlet to a trip where he was supposed to be killed, but he survived to the attempt. At the end, Hamlet killed Polonious by accident, thinking he was Claudius, and Polonius' son, challenges him to a duel, in which everybody dies except for Horatio, Hamlet's friend.
