Black Boy and Jim Crow Essay Reflection • Standard : 5 Students construct and test hypotheses; collect,
evaluate, and employ information from multiple primary and secondary
sources; and apply it in oral and written presentations. • Question Prompt: How could I improve this work.
In this assignment, Black Boy and Jim Crow Essay, I wrote
about the racist issues that African American people experienced during
the Jim Crow Law era, and how they had to leave the South because of the
discrimination and exploitation that they got from these laws. The standard
I met was number 5: “Students construct and test hypotheses; collect,
evaluate, and employ information from multiple primary and secondary sources;
and apply it in oral and written presentations.” • Writing this essay was a really good experience, I learned so much about the unfair situations that African Americans had to go through for the racism problems originated by white people, for example the stereotypes, in Black Boy the news paper that Richard was selling said, “The only dream of a nigger is to be a president and to sleep with white women! Americans, do we want this in our fair land? Organize and save white womanhood!” (pg.131).This stereotype shows the way white people at the time did not care about what black people thought, they just stereotyped them they way they wanted, this leaded to the way whites treated blacks. So blacks became what whites thought they were, not what they could be. I feel proud this piece because I learned much more than what I thought I was going to. I could improve this work by looking for pictures of the events and complementing my work with images so the reader could have a better picture of the work done. It could also be improved by revising my grammar and having a stronger writing, and finally by adding more information and details of the different events that occurred against African Americans.
