The Over Appreciated Guests:
Irony and Sarcasm in “A Small Place”

In this assignment, The Over Appreciated Guests: Irony and Sarcasm in “A Small Place”, I learned and reflected about the way Antiguans live. My essay discusses the poverty that exists in Antigua, and the challenges people face in surviving there. I further explore the injustices tourists perpetrate when they come to Antigua and pay insignificant amounts of money. They are like kings and queens, but the locals their tiny amounts of money work all day long and still live in poverty.

I chose this assignment as my growth piece because the story helped me see a different perspective of life. I met the Reading Standard 2.2 in response to literature. I read “A Small Essay”, and responded with a reflection essay. Not only did I reflect on the injustice that occurs in Antigua, but in the whole world; this increased my hunger for change, and my commitment to social activism.
