Question Prompt: Why is this my best work?
lalallalIn
the Final Exam Case Study project, I had to brainstorm the rule,
the legal issue, the facts, and analyze the case West Virginia
State Board of Education v. Barnette (1943). The law rules I
used were the First Amendment and the 1940 Minersville School
District v. Gobitis case that was mentioned in the case article.
The facts were that W. Virginia Board of Ed. required teachers
and students to say the pledge, but a man named Barnette –
a Jehovah’s Witnesses who believed that saying the pledge
to the flag is not allowed by the Ten Commandments – did
not consent his child to say the pledge of allegiance. His child
was expelled from his school for saying it and the officials
threatened to send his son to a reformatory. But then Barnette
was put into jail and fined. The legal issue was: “Should
the Supreme court force the people to do things against their
religion?” The school district was trying to honor the
nation and wanted national unity at the time of war. But Barnette
believed that his First Amendment was violated, and that they
had the right to practice their religion, which did not include
saying the pledge. My thesis for the essay was: The Supreme
court was wrong in violating the First Amendment of Jehovah’s
Witnesses followers by forcing them to say the pledge of allegiance
because it is against their religion. I met the standard: “Students
construct and test hypotheses; collect, evaluate, and employ
information from multiple primary and secondary sources; and
apply it in oral and written presentations”, by using
the information given in the short article, using the facts
to brainstorm, and then writing the essay.
lalalalalThis
is my best work because I can apply what I learned
to the real world by analyzing the problems in my life and really
listing or brainstorming solutions. By using facts and analyzing
the main ideas would help me on solving any problem. This would
help me be more organized with my life issues. In college I can
use the same brainstorming method to help me write an essay. But
since we used brainstorming for a law case, and it is organized
different than other graphic organizers it would be more useful
for me to do when I am searching for solutions in my personal problems.
I also learned about some rights people have that helps us express
our beliefs and disagreements.
