The first thing I'd like to do in this digital portfolio is to introduce one of my favorite painters. His name is William Blake. He was born on November 28, 1757 and died on August 12, 1827. He was an English poet, visionary, painter, and printmaker. Largely unrecognized during his lifetime, Blake's work is considered today seminal and significant in the history of both poetry and the visual arts. I choose to use one of his images in my home page digital portfolio because I admire his paintings and poems along with the themes they convey. Though he believed himself able to converse aloud with Old Testament prophets, and despite his work in illustrating the Book of Job, this might have made him be seen as crazy before society. Blake had an enormous affection for the Bible which was accompanied by hostility for the established Church. In addition, his beliefs modified by a fascination with Mysticism and the unfolding of the Romantic Movement around him.
