| Angel
vs. Angel
Scene
1:
On
the hallway, Ms. Carter discovers Angel and goes towards her.
Ms.
Carter: Angel, why didn’t you
come to my class this morning? Are you sick?
Angel
doesn’t say anything.
Ms.
Carter: What’s wrong? Angel,
tell me the reason.
A
student: Ms.
Carter, don’t talk her, she’s mute, like there’s glue in her mouth,
she can never open it.
As
he says to Mr. Carter, he laughs loudly.
Ms.
Carter:
Don’t laugh at your classmate. Maybe she’s just sick today.
The
student goes away with a silly face.
Ms.
Carter:
(whisper to Angel) Angel, how are you? Are you feeling good?
Angel
nods her head.
Ms.
Carter: I wanna talk to
you. Is that okay?
Angel
nods her head again.
Ms.
Carter: Ok,
let’s talk at my room.
They
walk to Ms. Carter’s room.
Ms.
Carter: Come
sit down.
Ms.
Carter closes the door.
Ms.
Carter: So,
can you tell me why you don’t speak? You just don’t want to or… any
other reason? Just tell me what you think; I’m trying to help you.
Angel
looks at Ms. Carter, but then she avoids her view, and still doesn't
say a word.
Ms.
Carter: Umm…
why don’t we just talk about other stuff? Err… tell me what you like…
for food? ... You like apples? (Angel is eating an apple)
Angel
shakes her head.
Ms.
Carter: So
you mean you don’t like apples, right?
Angel
nods her head at first, but then she shakes it after that.
Ms.
Carter: Oh,
well. Wait, yes or no, no or yes, yes yes, no no, no yes, yes no? See,
uh, make me confuse.
Angel:
(smiles)
No
Ms.
Carter: No?
I’m wrong? Or you don’t like it? Ar, calm, calm, I can figure it out,
I can figure it out…
Angel:
No,
I don’t like apples.
Ms.
Carter: Arr...
Why do you tell me so quickly? I definitely figure it out by myself.
Anyways, thank you for telling me this. You don’t like apples, but why
you eat it?
Angel:
My
mom says applies can make me healthy.
Ms.
Carter: Healthy, you look
healthy.
Angel:
Not
really.
Ms.
Carter: Um…
the bell’s rung, go to your next class, fell free to come to talk to
me, ok? (While Angel almost gets out of the classroom) I really appreciate
talking to you.
Scene
2:
On
the phone.
Mrs.
Land: Hello
Ms.
Carter: Hi,
is this Mrs. Land?
Mrs.
Land: Yes,
it is.
Ms.
Carter: Hi,
Mrs. Land, this is Ms. Carter, Angel’s math teacher. I wanna talk to
you about your daughter, do you have time right now or do you want me
to call next time?
Mrs.
Land: I
think now’s fine. What about my daughter? Did she do something wrong
or did she fail your class?
Ms.
Carter: No,
no, she’s good, very good. Just a tiny problem. Umm…I wanna ask if she
talks a lot at home.
Mrs.
Land: Not
really. She doesn’t like to talk that much, not even with people in
her age. I know that’s a big problem. Indeed, she was active and outgoing
when she’s little, but slowly, it’s like she’s in a dark room by her
own, the door is locked, no one can enter and talk to her. His father
and I have tried many ways to open the door, like we moved from one
city to another, we buy everything for her, and we even have dinner
together every night, that we weren’t used to, but we still couldn’t
approach her a little bit. We know that’s our fault, we didn’t take
good care of her when she’s little, so that she was always sick and
couldn’t go to school, but we just want to make up for this fault.
Ms.
Carter: Don’t
worry, Mrs. Land. I will try my best to help her. And with you, I can
even do better. She does very well at school, just need to step up a
little bit. Actually, I got an idea to help her to step up. My son is
only two years older than Angel, he’s a friendly guy, I think Angel
will be willing to play with him. Would you like to come to my house
with Angel this Saturday? So that she can play and talk to us.
Mrs.
Land: Great!
I guess she will like this way. Ok, I will bring her there.
Ms.
Carter: I
hope it could help. Then see you on Saturday.
Mrs.
Land: Thank
you so much Ms. Carter. Angel is so lucky to have a teacher like you.
Scene
3:
On
Saturday, Mrs. Land goes to Ms. Carter’s house with Angel. Ms. Carter
opens the door after they rang the bell.
Ms.
Carter: Hi,
Mrs. Land. Hi, Angel. How are you today? Come on in, do you know what
I made for you? A super surprise…..it’s a Hello Kitty shape cake. Want
a large piece of it? And there are also some chicken and juices, go
get what you like.
After
eating dinner together,
Mrs.
Land: Angel,
mammy and Ms. Carter have something important to talk about, can you
stay with Nick at his room? You can also play with him, he’s nice.
Angel
shakes her head.
Mrs.
Land: Please,
Angel, I promise it won’t take that long. Okay? I know you are a good
girl right?
Angel
frowns as she goes with Nick.
Mrs.
Land and Ms. Carter go back to the living room and start their conversation.
Mrs.
Land: I haven’t
seen Angel so happy for a long time. I think it’s a good start. Thanks,
Ms. Carter.
Ms.
Carter: No
problem, she’s smart and cute, I really want to help her. But err… I’m
curious about why you said it was your fault last time? I hope you don’t
mind I ask this.
Mrs.
Land:
It’s okay. When she’s about 5 or 6 years old, her father and
I were so busy on our business. We always left her to the maid and we
saw each other less than twice a week. Besides every time we came home,
my husband and I would have arguments about this and about that, but
we didn’t talk to her and care about her. When time went by, she seemed
to be afraid of us and did not talk that much in front of us, when we
asked her to do something; she just obeyed us with and without willing
to do so.
Ms.
Carter:
That sounds…. But it shouldn’t make the problem so serious though.
Mrs.
Land: After
she started to ignore us, she became very quite. And
you know what, something strange happened on one day after my husband
and I went home. After that night, she started to not talk to anybody,
and the most horrible thing was she seemed like the other person; everything
she did was different as before. We let her go to see different types
of doctors, but all of them said she was ok. But we don’t think so.
She’s our daughter; we know better about her than any others, we just
think she’s not ok. However, we don’t know what we can do and what we
shall do, so we moved here.
Scene
4 (back to past):
At
8:30, while Angel
is playing by herself in her room, the bell rings. Angel knows that
it’s her parents, so she is running happily from her room to open the
door. She opens the door; Mr. Land walks from the door to the living
room quickly and sits down on the sofa without even looking at Angel,
(Mrs. Land walks slowly following him). Angel lowers her head and closes
the door. And then she’s standing there looking at her parents.
Mr.
Land: Didn’t
you hear what I say last time? How could you make that decision by your
own? Do you know it’s not joking time? You can’t play around it.
Angel
seems do not want to listen to them anymore, she covers her ears by
her hands.
Mrs.
Land: I don’t
think I was wrong, instead, I think your idea is crap.
Mr.
Land: I’m
doing this because this is our first series restaurant, and I want it
to be good, to be popular. You know what I mean?
Mrs.
Land: Same
here. So I made that decision. I don’t see anything was wrong, I chose
that supplier to supply us meat, it’s because its meat is cheaper than
the others, but still has the same quality as they do.
Suddenly,
Angel:
(screams) shut up!
And
then she runs out of the house.
Mrs.
Land: (is
amazed and whisper) what happened?
Mr.
Land:
Hey, don’t stay here, hurry up, go look for her.
They
run out of the house and look for Angel.
Suddenly,
there’s a bright light appears from the sky to the little play ground
that is near their house.
Mr.
Land:
What’s that? Let’s go see what’s happening.
Mrs.
Land:
Don’t waste time, Angel might be in danger, we should find
out her first.
Mr.
Land: She
might be there. Look, the light is so ridiculous, maybe there are aliens
arrive on the Earth.
They
go towards the light, and when they almost get there, the light disappears
dramatically. They stop walking, looking around to look for the light.
Fuzzily, they see a girl that seems like Angel. They run to the girl
as fast as possible, and they find out that the girl is Angel. When
they reach where Angel is, Mrs. Land comes up and hugs her.
Mrs.
Land:
Angel, I’m sorry…
Angel
gets rid of Mrs. Land before she finishes her talking, and she goes
back to their house quietly. Mr. and Mrs. Land are staying right there
and seeing her acting so differently.
Scene
5:
About
9:00, Mrs. Land and
Ms. Carter are still talking at Ms. Carter’s house.
Mrs.
Land:
Wow, it’s 9 already, I guess it’s time to go.
As
Mrs. Land gets up from the sofa, suddenly, there’s a dazzling light
appears from Nick’s room.
Ms.
Carter: Ar,
(screaming), why is so bright in Nick’s room?
Mrs.
Land: God, is that happening
again?
Both
of them run to Nick’s room as fast as they could. The light comes from
the sky all the way down to where Nick is standing, and Nick is rising
along with the light.
Ms.
Carter: (Screaming)
Nick, my son, what’s happening, why are you rising along with the light?
Don’t leave me.
Nick: Sorry,
nice woman, I’m not your real son. I’m one of the angels from the heaven.
Your son will be back after I disappear. And thank you for taking care
of me for this unforgettable year.
Mrs.
Land: (holding
Angel in her arms and crying) what about my daughter? Why did you come
down here and make things all mess up? We are innocent.
Nick: I
was sent to the Earth by our sacred God. Our purpose is to test human
beings’ sentiment and the sense of responsibility. And your daughter
is one of our tested targets. In order to complete this mission, total
seven angels were sent here. But don’t worry; you will not remember
anything after you see the seven-color rainbow in the sky.
As
he says the last sentence, he disappears in the sky, and there’s is
a rainbow, which seems like across the whole country, appears in the
sky. Everything becomes normal and no one remembers what had happened:
The
four of them are still standing in Nick’s room,
Mrs.
Land:
(Look around) Angel, what are we doing here? Is she your teacher?
Angel:
I don’t know. Why do you ask me? Ask my teacher. (Feeling strange)
Ms.
Carter:
Nick, you look different, but I can’t say the difference.
Nick:
Oh, come on, you guys. Don’t pretend to be a stranger to make
me laugh.
