How have i grown intellectually?

I consider the Alter-Ego Poet Project to be an example of my intellectual growth. The standard I met was 2.5 recite poems, selection from speeches, or dramatic soliloquies, in which I wrote my own poem that was influenced by the poet Li-Young Lee and I recited it in class. Our objective for this project was to perform our poem memorized in front of teachers and students with courage. What I did in this project was I chose my favorite poet and also one of their poems that was printed on the website: Academy of American Poets. Then I marked up the poem that we chose from my poet. For example my poem was titled “The Gift” and the theme of this poem was a son loving his father and how the father saved his life by taking out a splinter from his hand. My influence poem was titled “Hopes” and it was about my father, also.

This project is my favorite piece of work that I did this year. This made me more interested in class because we got to write our own poem, not only just a poem that we invented, but it had to be influenced by our poet’s poem. Writing this poem made my intellectual confidence grow a lot. I learned how to trust my self in writing poem, because I have grown intellectually on expressing my feelings in writing. My poet Li-Young Lee wrote and recited a poem about his father titled “The Gift”. This gave me the idea and courage to make my own poem about my father. Since I haven’t seen my father for almost 3 years, because he is still in the Philippines, I wrote about how I miss him and love him, this is one of my short lines in my poem, “To make him feel better, I smiled back at him. I flashed back to the moment, We had together”. Also, I included the best advice I learned from him in my poem. His advice connects to the title of my poem“Hopes”. This advice is important, because I think that you shouldn't give up on anything. You have to have hope. As an intellectual, I know that to be wise you have to believe in yourself.
